Was the wrong version of the document submitted?
Compare the paper in your hands with the official category. A home photocopy is not the same as an issuer-certified record. A marriage certificate, court decree and academic transcript have different preparation questions. Read the relevant category rather than looking only for a seal. When the recipient needs a decree’s detailed terms, a shorter vital-record certificate may not be the requested item even if both concern a divorce.
Is the notarial certificate incomplete?
Florida requires the full notarial statement for notarized documents and the original notarial signature, stamp and seal. Review the certificate for completion before mailing. If an element is missing or the wrong act was used, contact the notary; do not write in or alter their certification yourself. A notary’s stamp on a government-record photocopy also does not override the restrictions on certifying copies of public records.
Was it a routing or filing problem?
Confirm the issuing or notarial state and the authentication required for the destination. If the request was returned, keep the office’s explanation and the document together for review. A missing filing item, an unsuitable certified record and a wrong authority require different corrections. Obtain current instructions for the actual issue instead of resending an unchanged package.

Can a clear scan replace the required paper?
A scan can help with review, but Florida’s ordinary paper filing still requires its specified original/certified documentation.
Should I order a new record immediately after a return?
First read the return reason. A missing filing item and an unsuitable record need different fixes.
Does document review guarantee approval?
No. It can identify issues before filing; the competent authority and recipient decide their respective requirements.
