Is it the FBI result or only a fingerprinting receipt?

A fingerprinting receipt, channeler order confirmation or private screening report is not the FBI summary itself. The FBI states that its fingerprint-search results are authenticated with an FBI watermark and a division official’s signature. Review the document for completeness, readability and your identifying details before paying for a filing. Questions about correcting the record go through the FBI’s process.

Can you use the official FBI PDF?

The FBI offers electronic results and says electronic-result users can print copies. Keep the original official PDF intact. A scan, screenshot, edited file or a notary-created copy should not be assumed to satisfy the federal office’s requirements. Ask the filing office or reviewer how the official electronic result is to be submitted under its current instructions; do not add stamps to the original report.

Why does an FBI report need the federal route?

The FBI report is a federal document even when fingerprints were collected in Miami. Its apostille follows the U.S. Department of State route, not Florida’s FDLE or state-record route. Confirm the actual report and intended country before arranging handling. Direct federal filing and a private coordination service are different options with different responsibilities.

Does the destination also require translation or legalization?

The foreign recipient determines whether it wants a translation of the report and apostille and what translator certification it accepts. If the relevant Hague relationship does not apply, request the correct authentication/legalization route instead of assuming a federal apostille is sufficient. This guide does not establish any one country’s visa requirements.

What affects your FBI apostille deadline?

As checked October 25, 2026, the federal office states processing within five weeks after receipt for mail requests and seven business days for its Washington drop-off/pick-up service, under the published conditions. The latter is not a routine same-day service. Report issuance, preparation and transport are additional. Recheck the current federal page and obtain a qualified service estimate for your actual document and deadline.

Related questions

Does the FBI issue the apostille?

No. The FBI authenticates its result; the U.S. Department of State handles the federal apostille.

Is the $20 fee the full cost?

No. It is the federal authentication fee per document. Report issuance, fingerprints, shipping and optional services are separate.

Can I guarantee completion for a flight date?

Use the official current service windows and allow for report preparation and shipping. A private provider cannot guarantee government processing or recipient acceptance.

Can an ordinary photocopy of a paper FBI background check be apostilled?

An ordinary uncertified photocopy does not meet the State Department’s published federal-document preparation rule. The page expressly includes FBI checks and requires an original or certified copy with original official signatures and seals. Use the FBI-issued result in the required format; a home photocopy or a copy certified by a private notary is not agency certification. Do not notarize the original FBI report. An official electronically issued FBI result is a separate format question, not a photocopy of a paper report.
