Which pages should the translation quote cover?

A useful scope lists the diploma, transcript, registrar statement, notarial certificate and apostille only where each is required. Ask whether sealed delivery or a secure electronic transcript must remain separate from the translation copy. Do not open a sealed academic packet without checking that requirement. The number of pages to translate can grow after notarization and apostille; confirm whether a quotation covers those added pages.

Does translation replace a credential evaluation?

Keep the awarded degree, course names, dates and grading information faithful to the source. Do not convert a foreign qualification into a U.S. degree name just because the wording sounds familiar. Where the recipient requires a credential evaluation, that is a separate assessment from translation and signature authentication. The registrar’s role is preparation of its academic records; it does not establish every overseas admission or licensing outcome.

Which translator does the foreign university accept?

Do not assume a U.S. certified translation is interchangeable with a sworn translation recognized by a particular foreign authority. If the destination’s instruction is unclear, share the written request for review before paying. Florida does not provide the translation itself, and its FAQ bars the same person from translating and notarizing that translation.

Diploma translation: original, certified copy or replacement?

Translate the diploma actually required by the recipient, including its reverse-side wording, signatures, seals and any completed registrar/notarial and apostille pages it requests. To translate the apostille, wait for that certificate; to authenticate a translator’s notarized declaration, prepare that declaration before its own apostille. A foreign-language diploma submitted to USCIS needs the regulation’s full-English translator certification, without notarization being imposed by that paragraph. An overseas admissions or licensing office may instead require its own recognized translator. Ask that office for a written translator rule and whether it accepts an original diploma, certified copy or replacement; translation cannot decide those questions or the degree’s equivalency.

Transcript translation: are grades and the grading key included?

Include all required transcript pages and the grading key, credits, course titles, dates and registrar certification; do not omit a reverse-side grading legend. Include the completed apostille if demanded, so that page is translated after issue. Certified translation is required when the named recipient’s rule calls for it; the USCIS rule applies only to foreign-language evidence submitted there. A notarized translator declaration is a separate requirement, not a synonym for an official transcript. Verify translation and original-record delivery independently: UW Graduate School, for example, specifies an official English translation for non-English final academic records and rejects opened mailed envelopes. That is UW’s rule, not a universal admissions or apostille condition.

Related questions

Must I translate both diploma and transcript?

Translate the documents the recipient requires. One does not automatically substitute for the other.

Should the apostille page be included?

Include it when required by the recipient; obtain the completed certificate before translating that page.

Does notarization make the translation accepted abroad?

It does not override the recipient’s translator and document rules. Confirm those rules first.
