Which U.S. apostille route applies to Peru?

HCCH lists Peru's entry into force on September 30, 2010 and the United States' on October 15, 1981. Peru's accession notification records objections by Germany and Greece, subsequently withdrawn; it lists no U.S. objection. For covered U.S. documents, do not add Peruvian consular legalization merely because the recipient is in Peru. Ask separately about the document type, translation and any filing requirements.

Does a birth certificate need an apostille for Peru?

It depends on where you are filing it. The Miami consulate's instructions for registering a minor's foreign birth, updated March 6, 2026, request the original Florida, Puerto Rico or U.S. Virgin Islands birth record and retain it. They require consular legalization in the proper jurisdiction or an issuing-state apostille when the birth record comes from another U.S. state. Do not turn that instruction into a blanket apostille requirement for a local Florida record.

For the different procedure of registering a foreign birth in Peru when it was not already registered at a Peruvian consulate, RENIEC's published checklist names an original apostilled birth record and Spanish translation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Confirm eligibility and the current translation arrangement with the RENIEC office handling your case. If a Florida apostille is requested, use an official birth certificate signed by the State Registrar; a notarial photocopy cannot replace it.

Does an FBI report go through Florida?

An FBI Identity History Summary is a federal document. Its apostille comes from the U.S. Department of State, not Florida. Do not notarize the federal original or substitute an FDLE/state report when the recipient specifically requests FBI evidence. Ask the actual Peruvian authority which criminal-record document, countries of residence, issue date and translation it requires; this guide does not claim that an FBI report is mandatory or sufficient for every Peruvian application.

Does SUNEDU always require an apostilled diploma?

For SUNEDU recognition, the official procedure updated June 26, 2026 offers document verification through a suitable database accessible to SUNEDU or the applicable apostille/legalization route. An available verification option is not an automatic promise of recognition. If you use the apostille route, settle the registrar/notarial preparation with the competent U.S. state before sending the academic record; Florida distinguishes public and private school transcripts.

SUNEDU requests a transcript or diploma supplement when additional information must appear in the recognition decision. For non-Spanish academic records it accepts the listed translation categories; its simple-translation option requires an appropriately qualified translator who is identified and signs it. Do not equate 'simple translation' with an unsigned personal translation. Degree recognition, university admission and permission to practise a regulated profession are separate decisions.

Can OrazAva help coordinate the U.S. document stages?

The Florida authentication stage can be coordinated without your personal trip to Tallahassee; an FBI document uses a separate federal route. For a useful review, identify the Peruvian recipient and procedure, the document’s certification and the accepted translator. Record issuance, apostille, translation and delivery need separate estimates. Administrative assistance does not replace consular attendance or the recipient’s acceptance decision.

Related questions

Must every Florida birth record for Peru be apostilled?

No blanket rule applies. Miami's cited consular service for registering a minor's foreign birth treats local Florida records differently from other U.S. states. Adult consular registration and a RENIEC filing in Peru require their own checklist.

Can a Florida apostille authenticate an FBI report?

No. The federal FBI document uses the U.S. Department of State route.

Does SUNEDU always require an apostille on a degree?

Its published procedure also offers suitable database verification. Ask SUNEDU whether that option works for your specific degree; verification does not by itself grant recognition.
